On March 19, UNC Hospitals will begin a Decedent Care Service. The goal of this service is to provide a resource for the family, physician, and nurse shortly after a patient death to assure that all necessary paperwork is completed, to answer questions regarding autopsy requests and to assist in the transport of the deceased to the Morgue.

The goal of this service is to provide a resource for the family, physician, and nurse shortly after a patient death to assure that all necessary paperwork is completed, to answer questions regarding autopsy requests and to assist in the transport of the deceased to the Morgue.

Initially the service will be available from 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Nursing staff is asked to notify the Decedent Care Service during the hours of operation, so that a staff member can immediately be available at the bedside.
