UNC Hospitals has changed the yellow isolation gowns at the approval of the Products Committee and Infection Control to a product that has features that will aid health care providers in ease and comfort of use.

Some of these enhanced features include:

  • thumb loops to allow for complete coverage of the wrist area when donning gloves,
  • no elastic at the wrist,
  • an easy slip-over-the-head feature that increases ease of donning the gown by eliminating the need to tie the upper part of the gown, and
  • an open back for better ventilation.

The purpose of the isolation gowns is to protect the health care workers’ skin and clothing from contamination when coming in direct contact with the patient and the patient’s environment. The new yellow gowns are in Central Distribution now and are an automatic switch – nursing does not need to do anything different when ordering.
