Effective Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, Dr. Vince Hoellerich, former anesthesiologist and critical care specialist at Rex Healthcare, is serving as Executive Medical Director, Specialty Services & Clinical Integration Initiatives, UNC Health Care System. The position includes key responsibilities with Carolina Value and the new UNC HC Clinically Integrated Network (CIN). This new role is a UNC Health Care System position that reports to Dr. Allen Daugird, President, UNC Physicians, and Chief Value Officer, UNC Health Care System.

As part of his duties, Dr. Hoellerich will help lead the Carolina Value Physician Solutions implementation team. He will participate in operational reviews of UNC HC specialty practices, physician compensation plans, and hospital-based specialty contracts. In other Carolina Value initiatives, Dr. Hoellerich will also work to streamline the complete referral cycle to and from Rex Physicians as well as participate in an initiative to advance integration between UNC Medical Center and Rex Healthcare, and especially between UNC Faculty Physicians and Rex Physicians.

His role in UNC’s new Clinically Integrated Network will include coordinating and facilitating specialty-related quality and standards initiatives, recruitment of private practice specialists to the CIN, and being part of the CIN Executive Leadership Team. Dr. Hoellerich will also participate in Epic@UNC Super User support for affiliate hospitals during next spring’s Go-Lives.

Dr. Hoellerich brings a wealth of experience to this position. In addition to his long tenure practicing anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Rex Healthcare, he served as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at Rex from 2003 to 2014. He has also served on the Rex Healthcare Board of Trustees since 2004 and currently is Chair of its Committee for Strategic Planning and Finance. Before arriving at Rex, Dr. Hoellerich completed fellowships in cardiac anesthesia and critical care medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He completed residency in anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Hoellerich graduated with high distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University.
