Several months ago, we shared with you that UNC Health Care is in the process of creating a system Human Resources department for our owned facilities (Caldwell, Chatham, High Point Regional, UNC REX Healthcare, UNC Medical Center and UNC Physicians Network). The first step in this process was naming Bill Rotella as system vice president of Human Resources for UNC Health Care. The next step is naming the system executive directors who will work with Bill to chart the future for the system’s Human Resources department.

The next step is naming the system executive directors who will work with Bill to chart the future for the system’s Human Resources department.
The following appointments are effective immediately:
- Katherine Burns, System Executive Director, Recruitment. Katherine has been Vice President of People Services for High Point Regional since 2008.
- Steve Haynes, System Executive Director, HR Services. Steve is currently Director of HR Services and Interim Director of Talent Acquisition at UNC Medical Center. He was previously Senior Director of Human Resources at High Point Regional.
- Rich Helgans, System Executive Director, Learning/Organizational Development. Rich has been a Senior LOD Consultant for 8 years and is currently the Interim Director of Learning and Organizational Development at UNC Medical Center.
- Aleyah Pryor-Pankey, System Executive Director, Diversity and Inclusion. Aleyah is the EEO/ADA Officer at UNC Medical Center, and prior to taking that role in 2013, she was a Senior Employee Relations Specialist at UNC Medical Center.
- Brian Smith, System Executive Director, Total Rewards and Systems. Brian has been Director of Human Resources at UNC REX Healthcare since 2008 and the Director of System Affiliate Benefits since 2014.
While the appointments are effective immediately, these individuals will wear dual hats while they continue in their current roles and begin building the system human resources team.
