In the fall of 2017, Murphy was appointed to the NC Medical Board by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper for his second term on the board. He was originally appointed in 2015 by former Governor Pat McCrory.
Murphy is an associate professor of anesthesiology and the vice chairman of clinical operations for the Department of Anesthesiology. The North Carolina Medical Board regulates the practice of medicine and surgery for the benefit and protection of the people of the state.
