UNC Medical Center received Leader Status in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Healthcare in the 2017/18 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI). Several sessions of the class will be offered.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation developed the HEI to address “the need for equitable, knowledgeable, sensitive and welcoming healthcare, free from discrimination based on LGBTQ status”, to recognize Hospitals and Healthcare systems that explicitly commit to equity and inclusion in providing healthcare for LGBTQ patients, and to promote equitable and inclusive care for LGBTQ patients and their families.

Equality Leader recognition indicates that UNC Medical Center is committed to providing LGBTQ patients and employees with culturally competent care. The HEI also provides resources on best practices for LGBTQ patient-centered care.

Once again UNC Medical Center has been invited to participate in the HEI survey. In order to maintain our Leader Status, we are providing employees with an opportunity to receive LGBTQ training.

A training titled “Suicide in the LGBTQ Community: Understanding Why and Best Practices for Health Centers” has been scheduled for Aug. 20 and August 24, Sept. 10 and 13, and Oct. 1, and 5 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. in the Women’s Hospital Conference Room #4. All staff can register for the webinar in LMS. Please plan to attend one of the trainings and encourage your colleagues to do the same.

Note: This training opportunity is intended for all employees and does not provide CME/CEU credit. If you are interested in FREE CME/CEU credits, take advantage of the opportunity to participate in any of the trainings offered by The National LGBT Health Education Center.

You will need to register at http://www.lgbthealtheducation.org/lgbt-education/online-courses/continuing-education/?login=1. When registering, use UNC Hospitals’ HEI Facility ID: 55857. Registration is quick and easy.
