Jennifer Wu, MD, MPH, has been named interim Chair of the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, effective July 1, 2019.
Wu joined the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at UNC Chapel Hill in 2013 where she currently serves as director.
Wu earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and received her MD from the University of California at San Francisco. Wu trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, and completed a fellowship in female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Wu earned a Master’s degree in Public Health in Epidemiology at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
Wu currently serves on the Board of the American Urogynecologic Society, and is also an assistant editor of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery journal.
The current Chair of the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Daniel Clarke-Pearson, MD, has served in this capacity for 13 years. During Clarke-Pearson’s tenure, the department has gained national stature for outstanding teaching, research and patient care.
Clarke-Pearson is set to step down from his position as Chair, effective June 30, 2019, and will continue teaching medical students, residents and fellows as a UNC Chapel Hill faculty member, and will practice in the Gynecologic Oncology division. A national search for a permanent Chair replacement is underway.
