The Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development would like to welcome home Steve Bogdewic, PhD, MA, to the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Bogdewic returns home from the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he served as Executive Vice Dean, and we are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our team and offerings.
The Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development would like to welcome home Steve Bogdewic, PhD, MA, to the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Bogdewic returns home from the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he served as Executive Vice Dean, and we are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our team and offerings.
Dr. Bogdewic will be assisting with implementing an executive coaching program, refreshing New Chair’s School, and revitalizing the Foundation Series for faculty and leadership development. In the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Bogdewic will serve as the Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development. He will be part of the Leadership Team working on leadership development initiatives and will also counsel patients.
Dr. Bogdewic has extensive experience facilitating faculty development workshops and delivering coaching consultations on a national scale. He established the first Mental Health Services Division at Indiana University’s School of Medicine to address the mental health needs of learners, and led the development of a four-year strategic plan for the institution. He also has experience developing 360-degree assessments, programming for emerging leaders in medicine, successful scientific writing workshops, professionalism programming, and more.
A Tarheel, he earned a doctorate in adult education and organizational development from the University of North Carolina and his M.A. in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from Santa Clara University. In 2008, he was elected to honorary membership into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. In 2012, he received the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Faculty Affairs Carole J Bland Phronesis Award for dedicated and selfless promotion of faculty vitality. In 2019, he was awarded the Indiana University President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and was also honored by having a funded lectureship named after him—the Stephen P. Bogdewic Lectureship in Medical Leadership.
His scholarly interests include leadership development, faculty vitality, and clinical teaching skills. He is a nationally recognized lecturer, consultant, and educator and is a licensed therapist who maintains an active clinical practice. Prior to his career in academic medicine Dr. Bogdewic served as a pilot for seven years in the United States Navy.
