In an effort to improve patient care, patient satisfaction, and improve transparency, we will enable “Open Notes” across all UNC Health Care ambulatory clinics on Sunday, Oct. 13, as part of our next Epic@UNC Quarterly Release.
- Physician and APP ambulatory progress notes in Epic@UNC created after Sunday, Oct. 13, will be shared by default in most areas – note multiple exclusions listed at this link. Notes created before Oct. 13, 2019, will not be retroactively shared. View full details.
- Patients will find their notes in My UNC Chart by clicking on ‘Visits’ –> the date of the visit –> Notes. View a screenshot. Based on feedback from three pilot clinics who have been sharing notes with patients throughout much of FY19, open notes have not significantly increased My UNC Chart messages or phone calls to the clinics.
- Additionally, if a physician or APP does not want to share a specific ambulatory note, he/she can always de-select the share button in Epic@UNC. View a screenshot.
