A team of four UNC students won the 2019 UNC Health Care Case Competition, a national competition challenging students to develop an innovative solution to a relevant health care issue. The winning team included UNC School of Medicine student, Sam Wurzelmann (MD-MBA ’21), and fellow Kenan-Flagler Business School students Dale Ziobro (MBA ’21), Ying Men (MBA ’21) and Dan Lesce (MBA ’21).

This year’s case focused on designing an innovative population health management program and providing value-based care for patients with multiple chronic illnesses in North Carolina.

The competition was held at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School on November 8. Competing teams from UNC, Duke, Yale, Emory, Indiana, and Minnesota were comprised of students from different graduate programs (MBA, MPH, MD, PharmD, JD, and PhD). Teams presented their findings and recommendations to a panel of judges, who evaluated the analysis in the context of real-world standards of practice.
