Mental health stigma, including that which exists among health care providers, has been identified as a major barrier to both treatment and recovery in addition to contributing to low quality care for persons with mental illnesses. Recent studies suggest that one-third of health care providers possess some stigma against mental health.
The goal of this study is to assess the presence of mental health stigma and to evaluate possible causes of differences among employees providing direct patient care at UNC Medical Center. Results from this study will be used in a novel study assessing the presence of stigma in an academic medical center.
