The School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a well-qualified leader to serve as Chair for the Department of Neurosurgery.
The Department of Neurosurgery, founded in 2010, has steadily grown in number of faculty and trainees since its inception. The Department provides neurosurgical care to adults and children throughout the state of North Carolina, and consists of 16 total faculty including 13 neurosurgeons. The ACGME accredited residency includes 14 residents (7 year program with 2 residents at each level). The department has active Divisions in Adult and Functional Neurosurgery, Neurovascular Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, and Spinal Neurosurgery. Additionally, the department has a very progressive multidisciplinary skull base program. The department has an active Global Health Program with the UNC Malawi Initiative and a state-of-the-art Multidisciplinary Surgical Skills Lab for training and research. The department is also an ENRICH (Early MiNimally-invasive Removal of IntraCerebral Hemorrhage) Multicenter Trial Site.
The Chair will provide leadership and direction for the clinical, educational, research and professional missions of the department consistent with the strategic plan of the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals/UNC Health Care. Minimum qualifications include an M.D./D.O. degree with board certification in Neurological Surgery, a distinguished record of research accomplishment, a strong commitment to clinical excellence, education and diversity, and clear demonstration of the qualities needed to lead and manage a distinguished public academic department in the 21st century.
