Last week, the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development and the Association of Professional Women in Medical Sciences (APWIMS) hosted a panel focused on the Daily Career and Life Transitions of women faculty. Over 80 women from the School of Medicine and the Adams School of Dentistry participated in the event.
On Wednesday, January 29th, 2020, the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development and the Association of Professional Women in Medical Sciences (APWIMS) hosted a panel on the Daily Career and Life Transitions of women faculty. The event opened with remarks from Amelia Drake, MD, FACS, Executive Associate Dean of Academic Programs, on the mission and work of the organization.
APWIMS President Wanda Nicholson, MD, MPH, MBA, FACOG led a panel discussion with questions focused on the panelists’ experiences as women faculty in the fields of medicine and science. The panelists graciously shared their experiences and advice. They encouraged others by sharing the challenges and breakthroughs they have experienced along their journeys. Many thanks to the panelists: Christina Shenvi MD PhD, Mary Kimmel MD, Joanne M. Jordan MD MPH, Michelle Floris-Moore MD MS, and Amy Gladfelter, PhD. The event closed with remarks from APWIMS Vice President Silvia Ramos, MD, PhD on takeaways for the day.
After the event, APWIMS leadership presented Dr. Joanne Jordan, Professor Emeritus and former Vice Dean of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development, with flowers and a warm thank you for her work championing women faculty at the SOM. Thank you to Dr. Jordan!
