The UNC School of Medicine Academy of Educators (AOE), housed in the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development, is now accepting nominations for the year-long faculty development program Passing the Torch: Fostering Medical Humanism through Faculty Role Models. Read on to learn about the program and how to apply before August 24, 2020.


Nominations for Passing the Torch: Fostering Medical Humanism through Faculty Role Models are now open. Please share the information below with faculty that may be interested. Applications are open until 11:59PM on Monday, August 24, 2020.

Passing the Torch is a faculty development program uniquely suited to junior Clinician Educator faculty to develop further patient care and teaching skills with a person-centered model. Participants will be expected to attend bi-weekly sessions on Wednesdays from September 2020 through May 2021. Depending on the size of the group, these meetings will be virtual and/or in person. Timing will depend upon the availability of the group.

Required application materials include:

  • One-page Letter of Recommendation from the Department Chair or Designee
  • Nominee CV, and
  • Brief statement from the nominee outlining why they would like to participate (limit to one page)
