Gary Park, UNC Health’s Chief Operating Officer, will retire effective February 28, 2021. Read more in a memo from Dr. Burks.

Dear Colleagues,

Please join me in thanking and congratulating Gary Park, UNC Health’s Chief Operating Officer, who plans to retire effective February 28, 2021.

Since Gary first joined UNC Health in 2001 as president and CEO of UNC REX Healthcare, his leadership has been critical to the growth and development of our system into a statewide network of hospitals and clinics.

After leading UNC REX through a pivotal time of transition as they joined the UNC Health system in the early 2000s, Gary then served as president of UNC Hospitals from 2004 – 2019.

Under his leadership, UNC Hospitals built and opened the N.C. Cancer Hospital and the Hillsborough Campus, expanded mental health services in Raleigh with the Wakebrook campus, won countless awards and honors for excellence in clinical care and patient satisfaction, and achieved recognition as one of the best places to work in America.

Gary served since the fall of 2019 as the UNC Health System’s Chief Operating Officer, which allowed him to take advantage of his longstanding relationships across the Triangle and the state as a whole.

As a leader at UNC Hospitals and across our system, Gary’s list of accomplishments is incredible. But, his legacy will be the personal impact he has made and the relationships that he built with so many people across all levels of our organization.

Thank you, Gary, and please join me in wishing Gary well as he begins plans for a well-deserved retirement.

Sincerely,

– Wesley
