A new national study led by a UNC researcher used an experimental design to examine the effect of message source on reactions to coronavirus prevention messages. The study concluded that messages referencing a public health organization had a more positive impact on the public than did messages from President Trump.

The study was published August 27 as a research letter in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. The lead author was Marcella H. Boynton, PhD, assistant professor in the division of general medicine and clinical epidemiology and a member of the NCTraCS Education Team.
