Read a message from Dr. Burks following yesterday’s grand jury decision in the Breonna Taylor case
Dear Colleagues:
We are living in challenging times in many ways. The events happening in the world trigger feelings and emotions in ways that can be exhausting and overwhelming. We live them at home and undoubtedly bring them to work with us.
In other emails and videos, I’ve described the great work of Dr. Samantha Meltzer-Brody and her team in the significant well-being support available to us. Please seek out this support if you need it.
We are a community and a family that supports one another. I know many are feeling angry and hurt by yesterday’s grand jury decision in Louisville, Kentucky in the killing of Breonna Taylor. And, last night’s protests stir more emotions.
As medical providers, researchers, administrative and support staff, educators and students, one of the things we do best is work together to support our patients – from cancer conferences, to team rounding, to group projects. Now is the time to come together as we work to create a more inclusive and equitable organization, and to learn, grow and support each other when we are hurting as a society or a community.
Thank you for living out our values. Please take care of yourself and support each other.
Sincerely,
Wesley Burks
