UNC TEACCH is announcing an upcoming Fall 2020 cohort of Project ECHO Autism for medical providers beginning September 28, 2020. We are offering 12, free teleconsultation sessions held the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at lunch time (11:45-1:15) for medical providers (pediatricians, family medicine doctors, nurses, PAs, NPs) who are interested in learning more about screening, treatment options, and resources for individuals with autism and their families. We are hoping to recruit a minimum of 12 providers from medical offices serving rural or underserved families in the broader Charlotte region (Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Scotland, Richmond, Union counites).

What is Project ECHO Autism?

Project ECHO Is an online learning and guided practice model that is revolutionizing professional health education. The program links clinicians practicing in local communities (“spokes”) with specialist care teams (“hubs”). It is hosted in a teleconsultation format involving a mix of didactic presentations and in-depth case consultations.

Autism effects one out of every 39 children in the state of North Carolina. Referrals to specialty clinics often involve travel and long waitlists for families. We want to support local mental health providers to improve their knowledge and confidence in providing evidence-based strategies and treatment to individuals with ASD.

Who is Eligible to Participate and What is the Cost?

Providers in primary care practices in Western and Central North Carolina who have individuals with an autism spectrum disorder of any age on their caseload and who would like to develop their expertise in working with this population. We are hoping to recruit a minimum of 12 providers from medical offices serving rural or underserved families in the broader Charlotte region (Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Scotland, Richmond, Union counites).
The cost to participate is FREE!  Continuing medical education credits and level IV MOC credits will also be provided free of charge.
