Frances Ligler, PhD, was presented the prestigious Simon Ramo Founders Award on October 3 at the National Academy of Engineering’s 2020 Annual Meeting.


Fran Ligler, PhD, the Ross Lampe Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering of the UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, received the prestigious Simon Ramo Founders Award from the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). The award is given to an outstanding NAE member who has upheld the ideals and principles of the NAE through professional, educational, and personal achievement and accomplishment. On October 4 at NAE’s 2020 Annual Meeting, Ligler received this award for the invention and development of portable optical biosensors, service to the nation and profession, and educating the next, more diverse generation of engineers.
