Katie Davenport, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, is one of the co-authors of a study published Nov. 19 in JAMA Network Open, “Delirium in Older Patients With COVID-19 Presenting to the Emergency Department.”
For the study, Davenport performed a chart review of all COVID-19 patients who presented to UNC emergency departments in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough to determine if they presented with delirium. The study found that 28% of patients had delirium at presentation, and concluded that delirium should be considered an important presenting symptom of COVID-19.
Brittni Teresi, a clinical research assistant in the Department of Emergency Medicine, is also one of the study’s co-authors.
