Dr. Lauren Schiff has been named the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Quality & Patient Safety for UNC Medical Center, effective Dec. 1, 2020. Dr. Schiff replaces Dr. Peggy McNaull who recently announced her move to become Chair of Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia.


Dr. Schiff is originally from the Newton, Massachusetts and completed medical school at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City. She trained in Ob-Gyn at Boston University/Boston Medical Center, and then completed fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She joined UNC as faculty in 2014 and since that time has held multiple leadership positions, demonstrating consistent excellence and successful outcomes in interprofessional team-building and operational and clinical quality improvement.

At UNC, she has served as the medical director for Minimally Invasive Gynecology and for Gynecologic Surgical and Ambulatory Services at the Hillsborough Hospital and the Hillsborough Medical Office Building. Most recently, she has served as the Perioperative Medical Director for UNC Hillsborough Hospital and the Senior Ambulatory Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition to these administrative roles, she actively engaged in patient care and teaching as a clinician and surgeon and is dedicated to caring for women with fibroids, endometriosis, complex benign gynecologic surgical conditions, and pelvic pain disorders.
