These challenging times have highlighted the leadership role the nation’s academic medicine community plays and we encourage you to nominate an outstanding colleague for the 2021 Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Awards.

The AAMC recently recognized and celebrated leaders who are making significant advances in medical education, cutting-edge patient care, groundbreaking research and outstanding community engagement. These challenging times have highlighted the leadership role the nation’s academic medicine community plays and the AAMC encourage you to nominate an outstanding colleague or institution for the 2021 AAMC Awards.

The deadline for submitting nominations for several of the AAMC’s awards is January 22, 2021, so there’s still time to acknowledge a colleague deserving of national recognition. Submissions for the awards are now much easier as nominations are electronic and available at aamc.org/awards. To help you with the process, the AAMC created some tips for preparing a submission. There are no fees and, in most cases, there is no limit on how many nominations you may submit.

The AAMC continually strives to attract a diverse pool of nominees for its awards. In this context, the AAMC is mindful of all aspects of human differences such as socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, language, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, geography, disability, and age. Earlier this year, the AAMC announced that it would rename the Abraham Flexner Award for Distinguished Service to Medical Education to the AAMC Award for Excellence in Medical Education, effective in 2021. The award recognizes the highest standards in medical education and is the AAMC’s most prestigious honor.
