Due to this shortfall in supply, UNC Health is advising patients to contact the state to find the nearest vaccination location by calling NCDHHS’ COVID-19 Line at 1-877-490-6642 or by visiting https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/findyourspot.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Jan. 25, 2021 – UNC Health announced today that it will receive only 10,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the State of North Carolina for the week of January 25-29. For UNC Health entities across the state, this represents less than half of the allocation that was anticipated.

UNC Health is not canceling or postponing any appointments. UNC Health schedules vaccination appointments each week based on the supply received. The reduced allocation means fewer appointments are scheduled.

“We understand the frustration and disappointment of not being able to get an appointment for a vaccination more quickly,” said Dr. Ian Buchanan, UNC Health President of Ambulatory and Post-Acute Care. “This is truly an issue of supply and demand. We are very aware of the angst this is causing everyone who is eligible now to receive a vaccine and cannot get an appointment or who spends hours online trying to get one.”

UNC Health has led the state in administration of COVID-19 vaccines with more than 75,000 shots given since the vaccination program began last month. UNC Health now has the ability to administer about 30,000 shots a week, based on the supply received. “As the state’s health system, we appreciate being a partner in this effort, and look forward to doing more to assist,” added Buchanan.

Due to this shortfall in supply, UNC Health is advising patients to contact the state to find the nearest vaccination location by calling NCDHHS’ COVID-19 Line at 1-877-490-6642 or by visiting https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/findyourspot

UNC Health will alert the public via social media and its vaccine website (www.YourShot.org) when it has more supply and appointments can be found online.
