Alex Gertner, an MD/PhD student at the UNC School of Medicine and the UNC Gillings School of Public Health, was one of three recipients of the Dean’s Distinguished Dissertation Award for 2021.


Each year, The UNC Graduate School recognizes four doctoral candidates or recent doctoral graduates for creating exceptional dissertations in each of the following fields: biological and life sciences; humanities and fine arts; mathematics, physical sciences and engineering; and social sciences. Alex Gertner, an MD/PhD Student at the UNC School of Medicine and the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, was one of four UNC-Chapel Hill students to receive the UNC Graduate Dean’s Distinguished Dissertation Award, for his work, titled: “Quality and Access of Buprenorphine Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder in Medicaid.”
