The Foundation Phase welcomes four new basic-science block co-directors for the 2021-22 academic year.
Yuri Fedoriw, MD (https://www.med.unc.edu/pathology/directory/gfedoriw/) (Professor, Dept. of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) will join Alice Ma of the Department of Medicine in co-directing the MS1 Hematology Block. Yuri is also co-director of the UNC Project-Malawi Cancer Program and Global Cancer Pathology Director for the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases with research interests in lymphoma.
Kristen Scherrer, PhD, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Cell Biology and Physiology, will become the basic-science co-director of the MS2 Neurologic Block, joining Ana Felix of the Dept. of Medicine. Kristen joined UNC in 2019 with a background in experimental psychology including research in neuropsychiatric disorders and pain.
Emily Moorefield, PhD, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Cell Biology and Physiology, will assume co-directorship of the MS2 Endocrine Block along with Morgan Jones of the Dept. of Medicine. Emily is also the Physiology Coil Director as well as co-director of the following MS1 blocks: Principles of Medicine, Renal, and Gastrointestinal.
Ed Kernick, DPM, Associate Professor, Dept. of Cell Biology and Physiology, will join Jen Howell of the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology in co-directing the MS2 Reproductive Block. Ed also serves as Medical Science Course co-director and Anatomy/Embryology Coil Director as well as co-director of the Principles of Medicine Block and Integumentary/Musculoskeletal Block.
