This collaboration will add flexible in-home aide services provided by specially trained teams of aides and nurses.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – January 19, 2021 – Home care is an integral part of the health care continuum and provides important health and supportive services to keep individuals of all ages safely at home.  Whether home care services are needed to keep someone safe at home longer, support a transition back to the home from the hospital, or provide care to stabilize or improve health care outcomes, home care plays a critical role in helping people to stay at home, which is where they want to be whenever possible.

The important role home care plays has never been more apparent than during the current pandemic.  Throughout these challenging times, home care is keeping our most vulnerable populations — seniors and those with disabilities or compromised immune systems — safe at home and out of harm’s way with the services that they need.

Recognizing the growing importance of and need to expand the availability of home care services, UNC Health is teaming with Premier Home Health Care Services, Inc. (Premier) to offer non-medical, in-home supports through UNC Private Duty Services. This collaboration will increase the robust home care offerings that UNC Continuing Care Services provides by adding flexible in-home aide services provided by specially trained teams of aides and nurses to address all aspects of UNC Health’s customer needs.

“Home care aides are the eyes and ears in home care. Their presence in the home, their work to support members with activities of daily and transmit Real Time Data to identify necessary interventions, and their often strong, emotional connection with clients and their families, contributes immensely to securing positive health outcomes,” said Arthur Schwabe, CEO of Premier.  “Premier has always emphasized and placed great value on the use of education and technology to support and enhance the delivery of health care services.  Premier is excited about our collaboration with UNC Health and we look forward to supporting and improving health care outcomes for North Carolinians.”

UNC Health and Premier also will continue to grow the collaboration as it introduces a flexible Transitional Care Program to support UNC Health patients when they return home from a hospital admission.  Premier will utilize its Real Time Data Program to ensure that timely interventions are made using actionable data from the home to prevent hospital readmissions and improve the overall health and recovery experience of UNC Health customers.

“We are excited to Partner with Premier to expand home care options for our patients,” said Ian B. Buchanan, MD, MPH, President, UNC Health Ambulatory and Post-Acute Care. “UNC Private Duty Services will nicely complement our existing home health offerings. We are committed to providing our patients with care in the setting most appropriate for their needs and home care is a perfect example of that commitment.”
