The Foundation Phase of the School of Medicine’s curriculum seeks a clinical co-director for the “Reproductive Block” of the Medical Science 3 Course for fall 2021. Duties will include curriculum design and scheduling, content delivery, small-group management, assessment development, and attendance at monthly Foundation Phase meetings. Co-directors are expected to be in attendance at a majority of the block sessions (Monday through Friday, 8:AM to 12:PM) to monitor instruction and interact with students. Ideal candidates will be familiar with block content, the learning management system (Sakai), and assessment systems and mechanisms (e.g., ExamSoft), and should have an interest in reproductive and genitourinary health. Applicants may come from any department.

The Reproductive Block runs from approximately November 1 to December 6 and consists of an introduction to reproductive medicine, urology, and obstetrics/gynecology, including reproductive endocrinology, puberty, intersex patient care, infertility, contraception, abortion, menopause, trauma, voiding dysfunction, urologic and obstetric pathology, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy, lactation, labor, genetic and metabolic disease, and breast pathology. In addition, the block includes relevant anatomy, embryology, histology, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, genetics, nutrition, microbiology, epidemiology, and pathology. The new clinical co-director will work with the current basic-science co-director and will receive 20% salary support up to the NIH salary cap.

Self-nominations as well as nominations by chairs, chiefs, or colleagues are welcome. Contact Kurt Gilliland, Associate Dean of Curriculum (kogillil@med.unc.edu) about intent to apply by Tuesday, March 30. A full application will include a statement of interest and CV. Top candidates will be interviewed.
