The study concludes that women who experience menopause while incarcerated have significant unmet needs, and that policy and practice changes should address the needs of this population. 


Elana F. Jaffe, MPH, research project manager in the Department of Social Medicine, is lead author and Andrea K. Knittel, MD, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and medical director for the Incarcerated Women’s Health Program, is a co-author of a pilot study published in Menopause: The Journal of the American Menopause Society.

The study is titled, “Brief Report: Experiences of menopause during incarceration,” and it was recently published online ahead of print. The study concludes that women who experience menopause while incarcerated have significant unmet needs, and that policy and practice changes should address the needs of this population.
