The Office of Academic Excellence (OAE) is pleased to announce that five new faculty members have joined the OAE to provide student support across the state.


The UNC Office of Academic Excellence is a group of faculty and staff who support students academically through the pre-clinical and clinical years. The office provides coaching, clinical skills training, and test-taking guidance. The OAE is pleased to announce that five new faculty members are joining the OAE to provide student support across the state:

Kunal Patel, MD, PhD, from the division of Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine, will serve as the Foundation Phase Academic Coach to support students during the pre-clinical years.

Animesh Jain, MD, from the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, will join the team of Clinical Academic Resource Directors (CARD) at the Chapel Hill campus.

Gita Flieschman, MD, from the department of Otolaryngology at Wake Med, will serve as the CARD for students at Raleigh/Wake Med.

Meredith Niess, MD, from the department of Internal Medicine, will serve as the CARD for the newly created Charlotte – Novant Health campus.

John Jenkins, MD, from the department of Internal Medicine, will serve as the CARD for students at Greensboro/Cone Health.
