The School of Medicine is excited to welcome Claire Lar


The School of Medicine is excited to welcome Claire Larson, MD, to the role of Director of Electives, coordinating elective offerings across all phases including the scholarly concentrations. Dr. Larson earned her medical degree from the UNC School of Medicine and completed Internal Medicine and Geriatrics training at the University of California, San Francisco. From clinical practice at Kaiser Permanente, she joined the UNC faculty in 2018 in the Division of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Larson is a member of the Academy of Educators, she already leads multiple individual electives, and already directs one Scholarly Concentration, giving her outstanding experience to take on this role. Congratulations Dr. Larson!

Dr. Larson will assume the role from Dr. Tracy Deselm. Dr. Deselm has done an outstanding job as the Director of Electives since the implementation of Translational Education at Carolina (TEC). Dr. Deselm is a highly skilled and beloved educator who has collaborated seamlessly with other faculty and staff to build and maintain successful electives in the SOM. She plays an integral role in the School of Medicine as course director, college advisor, career goal advisor, and highly active member of the clinician educator community at UNC. We offer sincere gratitude to Dr. Deselm for her commitment to medical education!
