Kavita Shah Arora, MD, division director of general obstetrics and gynecology, was selected as a Greenwall Fellow in Bioethics by the United States National Academy of Medicine.


Kavita Shah Arora, MD, associate professor and division director of general obstetrics and gynecology, is part of the 2021 five-member class of U.S. National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Fellows. The NAM specifically selected her as a Greenwall Fellow in Bioethics.

Dr. Arora joined the UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology this month. Previously, she was associate professor of reproductive biology and bioethics as well as the Dierker-Biscotti Endowed Professor of Women’s Health and Wellness at Case Western Reserve University.

She currently serves as the Chair of the national ethics committee of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and serves on the Governing Council for the Young Physicians Section of the American Medical Association. She has served on the national ethics committee of the American Medical Association and on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities.

Her clinical, research, and education interests center around reproductive justice and ensuring evidence-based and equitable reproductive health policy, with a focus on sterilization disparities. She has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and has been funded by the Society for Family Planning, HRSA, and the NIH.
