Please follow the steps below to schedule your booster dose and help us share this information with our patients.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and FDA recently expanded guidance for COVID vaccine booster doses to include some individuals who previously received Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccines – learn more at this link.

Scheduling a Booster Dose of Pfizer, Moderna or J&J

Please follow the steps below to schedule your booster dose and help us share this information with our patients:

  • SOM Teammates:
    • N.C. Cancer Hospital Occupational Health Vaccine Clinic
      • Clinical teammates who received their first and second doses of Moderna vaccine may receive a booster Moderna shot starting today (Wednesday, Oct. 27) through Friday, Oct. 29, at the Occupational Health Vaccine Clinic located in the N.C. Cancer Hospital Conference Room #1. Appointments are required – schedule your shot using My UNC Chart, at this link (requires ONYEN login) or by calling 984-215-4485.
      • This week, this clinic is not providing Moderna boosters to teammates who received Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson primary doses.
    • Other UNC Health locations:
      • You can schedule a 1st dose, 2nd dose or booster dose appointment of Pfizer, Moderna or J&J vaccine at UNC Health locations via My UNC Chart, at this link (requires ONYEN login) or by calling 984-215-4485 between 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.
      • In alignment with guidance from the CDC and FDA, other UNC Health locations will allow patients and teammates to mix-and-match COVID vaccines. For example, if you were initially fully vaccinated with Pfizer, you can opt to receive a booster dose of either a Pfizer of Moderna vaccine.
    • Other Locations: In addition to UNC Health locations, booster doses are widely available at local pharmacies and through NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS).
    • Note: SOM and UNC Health teammates are not currently required to receive a booster dose. A booster dose may be required for UNC Health teammates in the future under our COVID-19 Vaccine Policy. Please keep your vaccine documentation. We will share details once a decision is confirmed.
  • UNC Health Patients:

Update on the Authorization of the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine for Those Ages 5 – 11

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, the FDA’s advisory committee recommended Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the Pfizer COVID vaccine for those ages 5 – 11. However, additional approvals are needed at the federal level before the Pfizer vaccine can be administered to this age group by UNC Health. We will update teammates and patients on the availability of appointments via newsletters, unchealthcare.org/vaccines and UNC Health’s social media channels as details are finalized.
