A range of events and observances are scheduled across UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Health to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Visit the UNC-Chapel Hill Office for Diversity and Inclusion website for additional information. The Office for Diversity and Inclusion hosts the Week of Celebration, in partnership with the Carolina Union Activities Board and Student Life & Leadership. Events include:
- The MLK Celebration Banquet on Jan. 16, during which the MLK High School Senior Scholarship, Bridge Builders and Citizenship awards are presented
- The MLK Lecture and Awards Ceremony on Jan. 19, during which the MLK UNC Scholarship for UNC juniors and MLK Unsung Hero Awards are presented
- The MLK Student Day of Service, during which various efforts to support the Carolina community take place.

The webinar, sponsored by the UNC Health Black Alliance Employee Resource Group, will feature keynote speaker Tonya Armstrong, PhD, MTS, founder and CEO of The Armstrong Center for Hope as well as System Vice President for Consumerism and Insights Victor Reiss, and an invocation from Darryl Owens, Women’s Services chaplain/grief counselor.
Love in Action: A Virtual MLK Day Celebration
The Holly Springs Martin Luther King Jr. Committee presents “Love in Action: A free virtual MLK Day celebration” on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.
The event will celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and feature musical dance tributes along with inspiring words from guest speakers, including UNC Rex’s Rev. Gyasi Patterson. Register here.
MLK InterFaith Prayer Breakfast and Memorial March
UNC Health is proud to support the MLK InterFaith Prayer Breakfast and the MLK Memorial March, both taking place on Monday, Jan. 17.
The MLK Interfaith Prayer Breakfast, featuring keynote speaker Bishop Vashti McKenzie, will be broadcasted live on WRAL at 8 a.m. and will livestream on WRAL.com from 7 – 9 a.m.
The MLK Memorial March departs from the State Capitol Building (100 W Edenton St., Raleigh) at 11 a.m. and features UNC Health Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Dr. Audrea Caesar as a lead marshal.
