The ONES program is intended to identify the most talented Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) who intend to make a long-term commitment to research in the Environmental Health Sciences and assist them in launching an innovative research program focused on the understanding of environmental exposure effects on people’s health. These R01 research grants are designed to be highly competitive, with only a limited number awarded per year. Previous recipients from UNC include Samir Kelada (2015), Kun Lu (2015), and Rebecca Fry (2010).
Dr. Moran is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and member of the Children’s Research Institute and Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology (CEMALB) at the UNC School of Medicine. His research program is focused on how environmental exposures impact the development of allergic diseases including asthma and food allergy. For his ONES award, Moran will collaborate with UNC scientists Michael Kulis (Pediatrics), Yongho Kim (CEMALB) and Feng-Chang Lin (Biostatistics) to investigate how exposures to environmental agents within the home, such as microbial products and air pollutants, influence peanut allergy development.
