The UNC Medical Center is the only organization in North Carolina accredited by the Commission on Cancer’s National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer.
The UNC Medical Center has received accreditation from the Commission on Cancer’s National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). The UNC Medical Center is the only accredited organization in North Carolina.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment that validates UNC Medical Center’s long-standing leadership in the area of colorectal cancer,” said Karyn Stitzenberg, professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology and UNC NAPRC program director. “Our multidisciplinary rectal cancer program is a team effort that brings together the expertise, vision and hard work of numerous individuals across the Medical Center. We are proud to have received this recognition and, together, we look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality and most advanced colorectal cancer care to the patients of North Carolina and beyond.”
According to the NAPRC, research has shown over the last 20 years that rectal cancer outcomes are variable and highly contingent upon specialization, training and program volume. The NAPRC aims to ensure patients receive quality care by evaluating programs for structure, patient care processes, performance improvement and performance measures.
