The UNC School of Medicine is reducing its enhanced distancing guidelines in non-clinical spaces, including laboratories, meeting spaces and break room spaces, to align with the University’s COVID-19 Community Standards. Masks will remain a requirement in indoor spaces on campus.

On Friday, the University shared guidance from the UNC System that all system schools should become mask-optional unless local guidelines require masks. UNC-Chapel Hill will follow the Orange County Health Department’s current indoor mask requirement and masks will remain a requirement in indoor spaces on campus.

Today, the UNC School of Medicine is reducing its enhanced distancing guidelines in non-clinical spaces, including laboratories, meeting spaces and break room spaces, to align with the University’s COVID-19 Community Standards. Outdoor meetings and gatherings with food and drinks are allowed, as well as in-person meetings and indoor gatherings without distancing, and eating and drinking without distancing.

The University’s COVID-19 Community Standards do not require distancing. It is important, however, to respect and honor members of the Carolina community who do wish to maintain personal space while eating or drinking and during in-person meetings and gatherings.

Additional Community Standards include:

  • Get Vaccinated
  • Wear a Mask and
  • Practice Healthy Habits
