Karlina Matthews, MBA, was nominated by her colleagues for her continuous support of learning and professional development across the UNC School of Medicine.

UNC School of Medicine Associate Dean for Administration Karlina Matthews, MBA, has earned the 2022 Outstanding Encouragement of Learning and Development Award from UNC-Chapel Hill’s Office of Human Resources.
The award was created to recognize managers and supervisors who facilitate staff participation in learning activities as fully as possible within the framework of an effective workplace. Matthews received her award at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the University Managers Association on May 26.
“Karlina has a passion and a talent for bringing out the best in those around her and she is always ready to encourage her teammates to reach their goals,” said UNC School of Medicine Executive Dean Cristy Page, MD, MPH. “It is wonderful to see her hard work recognized and we are so proud of her leadership in the School of Medicine.”
Matthews oversees all administrative practices for the UNC school of Medicine as well as the Offices of Human Resources, Information Technology, Space Planning, and Professional Service Contracts and Affiliations. She works closely with leaders across UNC-Chapel Hill, the UNC Medical Center, and UNC Health to accomplish organizational goals and support employees.
Matthews has been with the UNC School of Medicine since 2002. She has twice received the Judy Mann Award, an annual departmental award that celebrates extraordinary, creative, and tireless service. She also has served on numerous School of Medicine and UNC-Chapel Hill boards and committees, including the UNC Faculty Physicians Compensation Committee, the Faculty Physicians Associate Chairs for Administration Executive Committee, the UNC SOM Administration Advisory Committee, the UNC Employee Forum Executive Committee and she has served as Treasurer of the UNC Employee Forum.
