Danielle Roubinov, PhD, a nationally recognized clinician-scientist, will lead the new Foundation of Hope Child and Adolescent Anxiety and Mood Disorders Program (CHAAMP) in the UNC Department of Psychiatry. She will begin work in her new role on Oct. 1.
The Foundation of Hope has been a long-term dedicated partner of the UNC Department of Psychiatry, supporting the department’s research mission and helping to break the stigma of mental illness. The Foundation has made a $1 million impact gift to create the new CHAAMP program to serve as a cutting-edge research program in child and adolescent anxiety and mood disorders in the UNC Department of Psychiatry.
Roubinov is currently a faculty member at the University of California, San Francisco, where she founded the Childhood Adversity and Resilience Lab. She leads basic and translational studies to understand the processes through which early adversity affects children’s mental health and she disseminates interventions that help at-risk children and families develop resilience.
“I am thrilled to be joining the UNC Department of Psychiatry to lead cutting-edge research on child and adolescent mental health. The Foundation of Hope has made such a tremendous gift to launch this critical program. Thanks to their generous support, CHAAMP will conduct research that meaningfully improves the health and well-being of future generations,” Roubinov said.
Roubinov’s work is funded by federal, state, and private foundation grants, including the National Institute of Mental Health, California Governor’s Office, and Brain and Behavior Foundation. She has been recognized with research awards by the Association for Psychological Science and American Psychosomatic Society and was recently named an Azrieli Global Scholar in Child and Brain Development by the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
“We are truly delighted that Dr. Danielle Roubinov will bring her considerable talents to UNC to lead the CHAAMP program and help us realize our goal of building a world-class clinical research program that will increase our understanding of underlying causes and ways to both prevent and treat children and adolescents who suffer with anxiety and mood disorders,” said Samantha Meltzer-Brody, MD, MPH, Assad Meymandi Distinguished Professor and Chair of the UNC Department of Psychiatry.
CHAAMP is the first of its kind in North Carolina. The program will operate within the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at UNC-Chapel Hill, conducting cutting-edge translational research to advance understanding and treatment of child and adolescent anxiety and mood disorders.
