Emily Vander Schaaf, MD, MPH, assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, was recently accepted into the 2022 class of the BRIDGES Academic Leadership for Women program. Vander Schaaf will join 35 individuals from varied higher education institutions across North Carolina who comprise the 2022 class.

Emily Vander Schaaf, MD, MPH, assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, was recently accepted into the 2022 class of the BRIDGES Academic Leadership for Women program. Vander Schaaf will join 35 individuals from varied higher education institutions across North Carolina who comprise the 2022 class.
The BRIDGES program is an inclusive professional development program dedicated to supporting cisgender or transgender women and nonbinary colleagues in higher education who seek to gain or strengthen their academic leadership capabilities, and/or individuals who demonstrate a commitment to supporting women and gender issues and equity in the academy. It is designed to help participants identify, understand, and build their leadership.
Vander Schaaf joined the Department of Pediatrics in July 2016. Vander Schaaf received a BS in Neuroscience from Washington and Lee University in 2005 and received her medical degree from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 2011. She completed her Pediatrics residency at UNC Hospitals in 2014 and a NRSA Primary Care Research Fellowship was completed in June 2016 at UNC-Chapel Hill.
