Jeanette Cook, PhD, has been named chair of the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry. She will begin her work in the role on July 11.
“Dr. Cook is an excellent leader, researcher and educator, and she brings a long track record of accomplishments to this role. She has strong expertise and knowledge about the Department and the School of Medicine, and a demonstrated commitment to our mission. I look forward to working with her,” said UNC School of Medicine Executive Dean Cristy Page, MD, MPH.
Cook joined the UNC School of Medicine in 2004 and has taken on additional responsibilities over the years, including serving as the associate dean for graduate education and associate chair of strategic planning for the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. She has been a strong advocate for graduate education; wellbeing initiatives; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and has a talent for building successful recruitment and retention programs.
Brian Strahl, PhD, served as interim chair of the department since May 2020, and Leslie Parise, PhD, served as department chair from 2006 through 2020.
