Anne Drapkin Lyerly, MD, professor of Social Medicine and research professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UNC School of Medicine, is lead author of “Beneath the Sword of Damocles: Moral Obligations of Physicians in a Post-Dobbs Landscape.”

The article, which was the lead article in the May-June 2024 issue of The Hastings Center Report, addresses the question of what physicians should do when their moral obligations with patients conflict with obligations to follow laws restricting reproductive health care following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case.
