CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC Health has earned three Press Ganey Human Experience Awards for 2024, reflecting UNC Health’s performance among the top 5% of healthcare providers in the country and highlighting UNC Health’s commitment to high-quality, compassionate care.
UNC Health’s winners and their awards are:
- North Carolina Basnight Cancer Hospital, Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic – Pinnacle of Excellence
- North Carolina Heart & Vascular Hospital at UNC Health Rex in Raleigh – Guardian of Excellence
- UNC Health Rex Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – Guardian of Excellence
“We are honored to have our program recognized for its commitment to delivering highly effective, compassionate care,” said Paul Armistead, MD, PhD, medical director of the bone marrow transplant program at the North Carolina Basnight Cancer Hospital on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. “Transplant and cellular therapies are complex, life-saving procedures that require an extraordinary level of expertise and teamwork. We are fortunate to have an exceptional team – including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, social workers, care coordinators, and recreational therapists – all dedicated to providing outstanding care and support to our patients and their families.”
The Pinnacle of Excellence award recognizes select organizations that have achieved top performance in their award category. In each category, just a handful of winners are named. This award is given to the top-performing organizations in each category based on extraordinary achievement. The award recognizes clients who have maintained consistently high levels of excellence in patient experience, employee experience, physician engagement, consumer experience, member experience or clinical quality performance.
“This achievement is a direct result of Rex teammates’ hard work, dedication to our patients, focus on high quality care and exceptional teamwork and collaboration,” said Dr. Meera Udayakumar, chief medical officer at UNC Health Rex. “We are so very proud of this national recognition and applaud our teammates’ contributions.”
The Guardian of Excellence award recognizes organizations that have achieved 95th percentile or higher performance in the applicable database on a set of key performance measures over a one-year time period. This award honors clients who have consistently reached the top (95th to 99th percentile) of their respective databases for patient experience, employee experience, physician experience, consumer experience, or clinical quality performance.
This is the first time that the UNC Health Rex NICU has received this honor, and the sixth time for North Carolina Heart & Vascular.
These national awards are part of Press Ganey’s annual ranking of the top hospitals and health systems throughout the U.S. Press Ganey annually surveys patients of more than 41,000 health care facilities, asking them questions about overall safety, quality and experience of care.
