The Office of Clinical Research will join Members of the Office of Research Support and Compliance with the Research Integration Team to expand UNC Health’s clinical research capacity, with the reorganization taking effect on July 1, 2025.

UNC Health is advancing its clinical research enterprise with the creation of the Office of Clinical Research (OCR), effective July 1. This new office will consolidate certain team members of the UNC Health Office of Research Support and Compliance (ORSC) with the UNC Health Research Integration Team (RIT), streamlining and focusing clinical research efforts across the health system.
The Office of Clinical Research will serve as a centralized resource supporting clinical trial operations across UNC Health. By combining expertise in operations, project management, regulatory and research integration, the OCR will improve coordination, reduce administrative barriers, and deliver more efficient, aligned support for investigators and partners.
This consolidation harnesses the strengths of both teams to enhance administrative support for research, in alignment with the UNC Health Forward Together 2030 plan. ORSC will continue to provide compliance and certain financial services support going forward in partnership with OCR.
“UNC Health is uniquely positioned to build a strong network of clinical research sites and to further build upon its relationship with the university,” said Michael Sledge, vice president of clinical research operations at UNC Health. “This is an important step to expand our clinical trial capacity and better serve our researchers and patients.”
The move reflects UNC Health’s commitment to becoming a national leader in clinical research — streamlining operations, fostering innovation, and translating discovery into improved care for all.
