Dr. Perou received the honor during KI’s spring conferment ceremony, held on April 24 in Stockholm’s City Hall, where 143 doctoral graduates and two honorary doctors were formally conferred. The ceremony celebrated significant achievements in research and education and is one of Karolinska Institutet’s most longstanding academic traditions.
At the ceremony, Dr. Perou was personally present to receive the honorary doctoral hat and ring, presented by Marie Arsenian Henriksson, KI’s Academic Vice President for Research. He was recognized for research that has been of great significance to Karolinska Institutet and to the advancement of breast cancer science more broadly.
“It is the most honourable distinction I have ever received,” Dr. Perou said during remarks at the banquet following the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of scientific research having tangible benefits for patients. He described the award as deeply meaningful and reflected on his long‑standing hope that his work would ultimately make a difference in patient care.
