The new cohort joins the current ~450 total PhD students conducting research across biomedical science fields.
The Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP) is excited to welcome their new cohort of PhD students to the UNC School of Medicine. The class is comprised of 61 developing scientists, including 23% North Carolina residents and the rest coming from 22 US states and 5 countries. They were selected from over 1,700 applications received last year (a 3.5% acceptance rate).These students will spend the next year in coursework and rotating through research labs, and by next spring they will choose their PhD program track and dissertation advisor from among our 300+ faculty. As an umbrella program, our faculty and students have research interests from across the biomedical sciences, including immunology, neurobiology, development, computational biology, genetics, plant biology, biophysics, pharmacology, and more.
