UNC Horizons Program featured in 2014 Child Fatality Task Force Annual Report
The recommendations of the Task Force cover a broad spectrum of causes of child death, including infant mortality, violence and unintentional injury. Since two-thirds of all child deaths are to babies before their first birthdays, the CFTF has a number of recommendations to promote healthy birth outcomes. UNC Horizons is a comprehensive substance abuse treatment program for NC pregnant and/or parenting women and their children.

Study demonstrates positive impact of azithromycin prior to cesarean delivery
Kim Boggess, MD, professor of maternal-fetal medicine, and fellow investigators of the Cesarean Section Optimal Antibiotic Prophylaxis (C/SOAP) study, have discovered that administering the antibiotic, azithromycin, alongside the standard recommended antibiotic regimen, cefazolin, reduces infection rates by 50 percent for women who have a non-elective cesarean delivery.

N.E.D. Comes to the Triangle
N.E.D. (No Evidence of Disease) is a band comprised of six Gynecologic Oncologists, including UNC's own John Soper and John Boggess. The band released an EP in September, and they have two upcoming shows in the Triangle.
