Alert: Uptick in Phishing email scams
OIS has seen an uptick in a new email phishing campaign asking staff to click on a link to continue accessing your mailbox. Remember, UNC will never send an email with links asking you to verify your mailbox or increase your mailbox size. Read more for instructions on how to report phishing messages.

MacNider Hall Network Maintenance
OIS and ITS will be performing network maintenance in MacNider Hall Saturday April 11, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. This work will cause brief (15-20 minute) network outages on each floor as the work progresses. OIS and ITS will be performing network maintenance on the 3rd Floor MacNider Hall Saturday April 18 and 19, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. each day. This work is in preparation for the Voice over IP (VoIP) phone upgrade. During the maintenance networking services will be unreliable throughout the day.

OIS System Updates - Jan. 11
OIS will apply the recently released Microsoft security patches to all Windows servers on Wednesday, Jan. 11, starting at 5 p.m. Each server will be unavailable for a brief time so that they can be rebooted.

Upcoming Changes to our Network to make it more secure!
The School of Medicine is working hard to make your network more secure. OIS will be working jointly with campus ITS to implement Network Access Control (NAC), which will perform a series of checks to see if devices connecting to the SOM network meet minimum security requirements. Network Access Control will reduce the risk of spreading malware by preventing machines with certain security vulnerabilities from connecting to the network.

Update: NAC Agent to be deployed Wednesday, February 1
To allow time to test a recently released version of the NAC agent, OIS will deploy the agent on Wednesday, February 1 instead of Monday, January 30. This change will affect all School of Medicine computers joined to the campus Active Directory (AD) domain.

Scheduled SharePoint Maintenance: Friday, February 3 at 7 p.m.
Main campus ITS will be installing updates to the SharePoint system on Friday, February 3. Starting at 7 p.m., all SharePoint sites will be unavailable for approximately 8 hours.

Remote Desktop Restrictions Effective Friday, March 30
Beginning Friday, March 30, 2012, a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection will be required for off-campus computers and devices to connect to on-campus computers using Remote Desktop or to print to on-campus printers.
