Improvement Leaders Program is Launched
Dr. Tom Ivester, Chief Medical Officer of UNC Medical Center, officially launched the Improvement Leaders Program on April 25, 2019 in Bondurant G-030. The Improvement Leaders Program is a new initiative at UNC designed to be an immersive learning experience focused on helping clinical leaders develop competencies in leadership and quality improvement.

FDA Approves ZULRESSO™ (brexanolone) Injection for Postpartum Depression Following Three Clinical Trials Led by UNC Researcher
ZULRESSO, developed by Sage Therapeutics, is the first and only treatment specifically indicated to treat postpartum depression in women. UNC School of Medicine’s Samantha Meltzer-Brody, MD, MPH, was the principal investigator for three clinical trials showing rapid-reduction in depressive symptoms, and says the approval marks a major step forward in women’s healthcare.

Kibbe wins Women Leaders in Medicine Award
Melina Kibbe, MD, Colin G. Thomas Jr. Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery, was honored with the 12th Annual Women Leaders in Medicine Award from the American Medical Student Association. Kibbe was nominated by Perry Tsai, MD, PhD, National President of the American Medical Student Association and recent MD and PhD graduate from the UNC School of Medicine.

New School of Medicine Program Highlights Precision Medicine at UNC
The Program for Precision Medicine in Health Care will be led by the UNC School of Medicine’s Jonathan Berg, MD, PhD. The program, funded by a $10-million grant from UNC Health Care, will be a collaboration among multiple departments within the school to bring together existing precision medicine treatments and support future endeavors in this field.
