Beginning April 1, a new Behavioral Rapid Response Team at UNC Hospitals will respond to behavioral health emergencies for staff, family, and patients who may be at-risk to themselves or others and are outside of UNC Hospitals’ inpatient psychiatric areas.

Due to a request from the Raleigh News & Observer (N&O), and in line with North Carolina’s State Personnel Law, UNC Health Care will share an updated salary database with the N&O in mid-February. We do not know when the N&O will publish this information.

A number of changes will take affect Feb. 25 in UNC Hospitals’ cafes: Beginning Feb. 25, UNC Hospitals’ patients will be able to order from a Late Night Restaurant Delivery menu; the Starbucks Cafe will be open 24 hours a day offering an extended menu; the Terrace Cafe will close each night from 9 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.; and co-workers will be able to call in orders using a Late Night Restaurant Delivery menu from midnight – 4 a.m. each night.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that our Medicine Progressive Care Unit (MPCU) has recently been awarded Gold-level Beacon Award designation by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The MPCU joins the ranks of CTICU, CICU and SICU at UNC Hospitals as recipients of this prestigious award, and is the first of our intermediate care units to achieve this distinction.

UNC Health Care is implementing a a new scrub program. Beginning Feb. 18, 2013, we will partner with a company called Cintas in departments that wear the green scrubs such as the ORs, Labor and Delivery, Interventional Radiology, and Cardiac Cath.

From Feb. 1 – 28, UNC Health Care will offer a Paid Time Off (PTO) sell-back election period with a payout on March 27, 2013. Additionally, co-workers on the Traditional Program will have the opportunity to convert to the PTO plan during the Feb. 1 – 28 period.
