Luis A. Diaz, MD, C.E. Wheeler, Jr. Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology, has announced that he will be stepping down from the position, effective Dec. 31, after serving in the role for more than 16 years.

William L. Roper, MD, MPH, CEO of UNC Health Care and Dean of the UNC School of Medicine, has appointed Ian B. Buchanan, MD, MPH, as UNC Health Care’s Chief Research Officer. Buchanan will assume the newly-created role effective Aug. 1.

Each year, UNC Health Care administers the CMS-approved Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CG-CAHPS) survey to solicit feedback from patients. One question on that survey asks patients if they would recommend their provider's office to friends and family. One hundred and thirty three of our providers had more than 94 percent of their patients respond “Yes, definitely!” to that question, which places them in the top quartile nationally.

He's dedicated himself to addressing poverty and disparity and found medicine to be the way he could make the most impact.
